But another animal shelter? There are so many here in St. Louis already doing great work- I need to do something different.
A couple good friends of mine- Missy Cissell and Amy Jenkins- are also huge animal lovers. We talked about it often and then the idea of an animal sanctuary come to mind. It all made sense.
How is what we would be doing different from the others?
We would partner with other local rescues to take on their harder case dogs. Dogs who have been with the rescue for years and have not had much interest, dogs who maybe have been deemed “unadoptable” for whatever reason. We would take these dogs into our facility and work with them on a specialized adoption plan. We would do special training with the dog and if we felt the behaviors were too strong to be adopted, then we would set that dog up to live out the rest of his/her life in our sanctuary.
The sanctuary would not be set up like a shelter. Our idea is to renovate an old motel and use that structure as a base for our dogs. Each dog would essentially have their own spacious room and their own outside run that they can access freely during the day.
This is our dream. We dream of a no-kill country. No animal should be killed for space. We want to help other rescues free up their space so they can continue to save more lives.
But it is not cheap.
We are starting the filing journey at the beginning of September. This process is long and costly. This is where we need YOUR help. Filing fees with professional help and with government fees are upwards of $3500.
If you believe in our mission, please help us out by donating to our cause. Please also help by sharing this page.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts,
