Declawing is the common term used to describe the amputation of the last bone in every toe in order to remove the claws. Since a cat's claw grows from the inner portion of the bone, the bone must be removed to eliminate the claw. No matter whether a scalpel, or a laser, or guillotine clippers are used, declawing is still amputation.
