Paul Simonson - Disabled Vet

Paul Simonson and his wife Lois are in desperate need of financial support in purchasing a one level home.

In 1982, I, Paul, was diagnosed with Retinitis Pigmentosa. In October of 1991, I was declared legally blind. I am defined as a Catastrophic Disabled Veteran level 4, however I receive no pension other than medical coverage. However, I do have a Leader Dog for the blind to assist me. My eye sight symptoms continue to worsen, however, there is no treatment in repairing my vision. The more my eyesight diminishes the harder it is for me to make my way through our house. My wife, Lois, fell down 14 basement stairs in December 2016 and suffered major health complications, including a concussion which has affected her vision as well. We currently reside in Bemidji, Minnesota in a two story house and basement that was built in 1910. I have suffered broken ribs six different times from falls that have occurred. My most recent injury, August 19, 2018, where I fell and broke two ribs and got a concussion, has significantly worsened my vision and the eye specialists, that I see regularly, have advised that we move into a one level home. With our limited income, and existing mortgage, we are unable to buy or purchase a one level home to better serve my wife and myself.

Now this August 19, 2019 I fell again in the basement over a pile of wood which caused me to crack my skull, split my head in the back, giving me a concussion, and bruised my brain which was bleeding in the front. I had been unconscious for a half hour before my wife found me by an act of God of what sounded like someone tapping on a pipe. I was taken by ambulance to Fargo, where I spent 4 days before going home. I had to wear a cervical collar for 3 weeks to allow my neck and head to heal. My brain has stopped bleeding but after having a c-scan they found I still have blood on the outside of the brain which the brain is supposed to absorb. I am back to using a walker due to being unstable. My sight has radically diminished and is more foggy. There are no promises for getting back what vision I did have. We must get into a single level house!

We are asking for your financial support in enabling us to move into a home that meets the needs of our medical conditions.

We have a GoFundMe page: Google: Paul Simonson-Disabled Vet-GoFundMe or you can send your donation to 1014 Beltrami Avenue NW, Bemidji, MN 56601.
