Paul's Story/GIST awareness

Beschermde donatie
My name is Veronica Marek and my family, and myself invite you to read Paul's story. With this page my goal is to help raise money for my brother Paul's medical bills, and to raise awareness for GIST.
You see a few months ago Paul was a healthy, 35 year old guy, when his health took an unexpected turn. Beginning of November 2017 started out normal as any, with a few what seemed to be flu symptoms twice that month. After Thanksgiving those flu symotoms turned into serious stomach pain that would not go away, and only got worse. December 1st was his first urgent care appointment when the doctors found the tumors.
Appointment after appointment things kept escalating. Two biopsies later we finally found out the tumors were in fact cancerous and then lastly found out exactly what it was. Paul was diagnosed with Stage 4 Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumors. (GIST for short) The oncologist explained that GIST is a very rare stomach cancer. Ultrasounds, and scans showed that Paul has a 17cm tumor in his pancreas, which since has grown larger, multiple tumors in his liver, the biggest there being 6cm, and multiple tumors all over his stomach that keep multiplying and one spot in his right arm.
Over the past couple months Paul has mainly been in the hospital with only a few days of being home, and usually only for a short time, due to severe pain caused from the tumors, and fluid build up. He started chemo pills (that recently we found out are not working) and radiation.
As if things couldn't seem to get worse, Paul and his wife lost their baby at 22 weeks due to complications, and the doctor dont know why. Little Mason Nicholas was a little fighter and got to spend his precious hour of life with his mom and dad at his side. He will forever be missed by his whole family, but was called to be an angel in heaven. Paul and Zuleyka also have 5 other kids at home, one of which, Zuleyka's daughter he just adopted in August.
January 10th, 2018 Paul heads to Mayo in Rochester to help find better treatment for his type of rare cancer. There is a doctor who agreed to take on Paul's case to try and help find better medicines to treat him, since he is so young, and this cancer is so rare.
With that being said, we would appreciate any kind of donation possible to help with medical bills they will soon be facing. And due to not being able to work, losing his health insurance. We as a family are helping out as much as we can but would like to reach out. Any little bit you are willing and able would be greatly appreciated and will not go unnoticed. If you are unable, but were gracious enough to read this story please keep Paul, his wife Zuleyka, their kids Levi, Landon, Brody, Hailey, Sophia and their angel Mason in your prayers.
Thank you for taking the time to read Paul's story and please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have. God Bless.
