On May 19, 2025 while working in the loft in his shed Paul fell and broke his ankle. He had surgery on his ankle and had to quickly become acclimated to crutches. With having a stroke previously we quickly found out the crutches weren’t the best option for him after a few tumbles and got him a scooter. A couple weeks went by and all was healing. July 11 he was told by doctors that he could start bearing weight on his ankle and by that evening he noticed something wasn’t right but chalked it up as part of the weight bearing. On July 13 Paul started developing stroke like symptoms and the next morning went to the ER. The doctors thought there was a possible infection in his brain and went back and forth on what the next steps were. They did some scans and found a mass located pretty centralized in his brain near where your motor functions are. On July 14, The doctors decided the best course of action would be a pretty risky surgery that involved boring a 1/4” hole in Paul’s skull to drain some of the excess fluid and do a biopsy of the mass. On July 15, they received confirmation that the mass was cancerous. On July 16, Paul was discharged from the hospital. In the early hours of July 17, he developed weakening in his foot and is now being re-admitted to the hospital. The doctors are still waiting on pathology to find out what kind of cancer exactly that he is facing, and what the next plan of action is. They aren’t sure if what he is currently experiencing is because of the surgery they recently did, the tumor, or something more. So far what they do know about the tumor is it’s a “BAD” tumor, it is a rare form of tumor, they aren’t sure how it formed, they are still unsure if it’s treatable and if left untreated life expectancy could be less than a year.
While going through this, Paul and Theresa have been unable to work, and the costs of surgery, hospital bills, gas, and food are all adding up on top of their regular bills.
