8th Grade Washington DC Trip

Spende geschützt
For the last two years, since joining Teach for America, I've been the 8th grade Language Arts/Social Studies teacher at Paul Revere College Preparatory K-8 in San Francisco, California. I have loved working with this group of students and cannot believe I have the chance to take them to another city I love deeply: Washington, DC!

Through WorldStrides, a well-loved and respected education travel company, my students, many of whom have never left California, will get the chance to travel across the country in June. We will be seeing our government in action when we visit the Supreme Court and the Capitol, getting up close and personal with US History through DC's many monuments, memorials, and museums, and we will even get a chance to talk about college-readiness when I get to take my students to my own school: American University.

After four years in that incredible city, I know how much a short visit can change your life. There is nothing more I could ask for for these kids.

I spend my days making sure my students know I care about them, I believe in them, and I think they can change the world. We have engaged in incredible civic action projects, read novels, written personal narratives and AP-level response to literature essays. These kids are passionate and more than willing to rise to a challenge.

That being said, we need your help. My school is a TItle I school, meaning that most of our students qualify for free and reduced lunch. This makes a big trip like DC seem way out of reach to some of our families. Even though the kids will be doing a huge amount of fundraising on their own and as a team, I want to help them out as much as I can so that this trip really can happen for all of them. The cost is around $2100/student, and with 13 students signed up, the $7000 goal will pay for about a quarter of each of their trips.

Thank you for taking the time to read through this!

Much love from a passionate teacher and traveler.
