Paulo Ferreira Araujo

Paulo is a well-loved student at Jefferson Elementary School, and recently, he was diagnosed with leukemia. Paulo is a bright, funny, charismatic, loving boy. Paulo's teacher, Mrs. Freni, says, "If Paulo isn't twirling around the hallways, you can find him singing and dancing in his fourth-grade classroom. His infectious laugh and jokes keep everyone smiling. Whether talking about soccer, Pokemon, or drawing, he is a boy of many talents and passions."

 

Paulo's prognosis is good, but his family could use our help. Paulo will be traveling back and forth to Boston for treatment. We are raising money for the Ferreira Araujo family to help make this stressful time just a little easier. We would like Paulo's family to be able to focus on Paulo and not the financial burden that comes with his diagnosis and treatment.

The Jefferson School community has been very active in helping Paulo's family. The teachers and staff organized a meal train to provide meals for the family through the end of June. STEAM teacher Mrs. Mack raffled off a pair of tickets to a 2022-23 Celtics game! Jefferson families have donated directly to support Paulo at school events. Mrs. Freni, Paulo's teacher, is tutoring him at home, and his classmates have been making cards and videos of encouragement! Paulo's family is Brazilian and primarily speaks Portuguese. Jefferson staff member and Paulo's neighbor, Mrs. Teresa Melo, has been acting as a translator to get the family the support they need. The Jefferson PAC (Parent Advisory Council), led by Mrs. Lauren Kopycinski, has organized this GoFundMe fundraiser to support the Araujo family. To that end, the Jefferson PAC will be able to collect and distribute these funds right to Paulo's parents, Erlando and Tatiane Araujo, so they can focus on Paulo's care.
