Paula's Dance School Tuition Fund

Who I am

I’m Paula Jankowska and I’m a dancer from Bristol, UK. I have been dancing since the age of 5, and it has been an significant part of my life from that moment on. In 2012, I had to stop training for 4 years and even though I thought I would never come back to it in a professional manner, dance has weaved its way into my life in various other forms ever since.

A year ago, I picked up training again and sparked my passion to follow something that has been a dream of mine since I can remember. After changing my career goals, I have made a lot of progress with dance. I am proud of having been involved with various projects, a lot of which have focused on the relationship of dance and other creative fields. I have not only managed to come back to training and attend workshops & performances across the country, but also have received an offer to study a three-year undergraduate course in contemporary dance at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance in London, starting in September 2017.

The problem

However, I am not eligible to receive a student loan from the Government and there aren’t many grants/scholarships for Contemporary Dance at an undergraduate level. From the few that are available, there are none that I'm aware of open to non-UK nationals.

The cost of rent in London is extremely high and school fees are £9,250 a year, meaning the total cost of the three years of study and living comes to around £55 000. Some of this will be covered by working during my study, but this still leaves a large chunk missing.

Why Trinity Laban?

Trinity Laban is one of the leading contemporary dance schools in the UK. I fell in love with the experimental side of the school and it’s more academic approach than most other conservatoires. A place here would give me a good head start in the industry and allow me to blend the boundaries between dance and other disciplines. I am extremely grateful to have been offered a place at such an inspiring school and would hate for my financial situation to stop me from attending Laban.

What I've done so far

Since applying to Laban, I have been working hard in order to raise as much money as I possibly can to pay the tuition fees. I have worked a full time job and my spare time was spent either running a small business selling clothes on eBay or at dance classes preparing for my auditions. After gaining a place, I have been even more careful about saving, however, as said before, there is still a huge chunk missing.

What I’m asking for

I know it’s a lot to ask and raising this kind of money is a huge challenge, but any amount of support would mean the absolute world to me. All of the donations will go towards covering the costs of tuition fees. I am eternally grateful for all your kindness!

Thank you.
