It is with a heavy heart that I am writing today. My brother, Paul Anderson, was just one of the many victims of the Sand Fire in the Santa Clarita Mountains last weekend. So many of you have asked how you can help, and I thank you for your generosity in advance.
My brother’s journey over the past 5 years has not been an easy one. He has worked very hard to restore his life. He has mended relationships, built his own business, given of himself to help others in need and created a life of independence from almost nothing. I have watched him struggle and succeed, fall down and get up again. He is an extremely resilient man and I am very proud of who he is today. That is why this loss is so colossal. Our hearts ache for him because we know firsthand how hard his journey has been. Despite this devastation, we can also see his faith and his hope in the future.
Paul rented a modest guest house and garage on a large lot in the Santa Clarita Mountains. It was the first place he called home. You can imagine what that meant to him. He was able to leave Friday a few hours after the fire began just over the hill from him. He sent me a text with a picture of the fire that he could clearly see from his front door. He knew he had to leave quickly. He was able to secure his phone, computer and truck, and of course most importantly, his life. He was never able to go back as the roads were closed immediately. His place was one of the first 18 to burn to the ground. In addition to losing all of his belongings, the most heart wrenching losses are those items that belonged to our late father, who passed away four years ago.
Because Paul was a renter, none of his belongings will be covered by insurance. He assessed his losses at about $9,400 yesterday, but that number is growing. I am setting up this account for those of you that would like to help financially. Any amount is a blessing. More importantly we ask for your prayers for healing and for all those affected by this catastrophic event. The pictures below are before and after pics. They speak for themselves. Thank you so much for your support.
