Paula's fight against Acute Myeloid Leukemia

Donation protected
Hello everyone, we are starting this fundraiser for our mom Paula Milligan. On June 29th she went to the Emergency Room after having upper back pain and shortness of breath. After a CT scan they found internal bleeding in her chest cavity. She was transferred to UH and she had surgery on July 3rd. They went through her groin and placed a stent in her heart. We thought after that she was in the clear and would be able to recover at home. Once she was home and recovering, she was having intense back pain and found out she had herniated disks from laying in the hospital bed. About a week later she was having pain at her groin incision site, she went back to the Emergency Room where they did another CT scan and found she was bleeding internally from her femoral artery. She was once again transferred to UH and she had surgery on July 28th to repair the artery in her groin. During her recovery at the hospital the doctors found that her white blood cell count was high and her platelets were low. She had a bone marrow biopsy done last week and we just found out on August 6th that she has Acute Myeloid Leukemia. They want to start her on chemotherapy as soon as possible but they just found that her groin incision is not healing properly. So tomorrow August 14th she has to get yet another surgery to help heal her groin area by doing a muscle graft. After the surgery they plan to start chemo. She has been through so much over the past almost two months. If you know my mom, she has always been the type of person to put everyone before herself. Now is the time she needs to focus on herself and fighting this battle. It has been really hard on her lately having to deal with all of this. Ontop of dealing with everything, we can not visit her at all with covid going on (hospital policy). We video chat with her everyday and try to uplift and keep her spirits up. She will be in the hospital for at least another month, where she will be getting chemotherapy. After a month they will be doing another bone marrow biopsy to see how well she is responding to treatment. She will be out of work for at least a few months or more depending on how she reacts to the chemotherapy. With my Dad being the sole provider now, they are anticipating bills are going to start getting behind. During this time, we told her worrying about the bills getting paid should not be on her mind and she needs to focus on fighting this battle and getting better. Your prayers and support mean the world to us! ❤
