This fundraiser was set up to help the Pace family following the loss of their wife/mother Paula J Pace. She passed away unexpectedly this morning after a battle with COVID-19. Ron, Paula and Andrea have lived in Silver Lakes for over 25 years and our family had the pleasure of being their neighbors and friends. The following is a note from her daughter Andrea:
Dear Friends,
After a hard fought battle with COVID-19 and underlying medical issues, my beautiful mother, took the hand of God this morning. I’m in utter disbelief and it feels as if my entire world has come crashing down. For those of you who knew my mom, she was the most incredible woman - fiercely loyal, undeniably kind, brave, selfless and always, always willing and ready to have a good time. She would do anything for you. She did for me, from the very beginning. Reflecting on my mom the word “fighter” keeps coming up. I think that’s why she loved to watch boxing so much. “It’s the fight to get back up and try some more that I love,” she would often say. She fought to have me and it has been the most extraordinary gift and privilege of my life to be her daughter.
I want you all to know that we practiced enormous precaution throughout this pandemic, and yes, I am all too aware that everyone is vulnerable. This doesn’t mean, however, that the path to healing and better days can’t be a collective effort. I know it’s hard to be in quarantine, I know it’s hard not to see family and friends, I know it’s hard to witness a country divided but, do you know what is truly hard? Not being able to see your mom at the hospital in the seven days she was there. Not being able to hold her hand through the most lonely and frightening of experiences. Not being able to kiss her goodbye and tell her that you love her beyond measure. THAT is what’s truly hard. This pain is unbearable and I don’t wish this experience on anyone.
I hope her lasting legacy to me, and to all of you, is her deep empathy, her joy and light, and belief in the fight. Remember how I told you my mom was a fighter? We can all be fighters too, for our loved ones, for our medical workers and for each other. We’ll celebrate her forever and her spirit will live on in me and all those she touched. I love you, a bushel and a peck, Mama, always and forever.
All my love,
Andrea
