Paula Monta, a 20-year-old New Zealander judo athlete with Tongan heritage, currently residing in Canberra Australia, has already made a name for himself on the international stage.

In 2025, Paula continues to shine, winning more Bronze medals at the 2025 Australia National Judo Championship, representing ACT, the Sydney and Canberra International Judo open championships. (Photos above)

In 2024, he claimed the Gold medal in the Junior Men’s +100 kg class and the Silver medal in the Senior Men’s +100 kg class at the Sydney International Judo Open. He also earned a Bronze medal in the Junior Men’s +100 kg class at the Canberra International Judo Open Championship. At the 2024 Australia National Judo Championship, Paula won Gold in the Junior Men’s +100 kg class and Bronze in the Senior Men’s +100 kg class. Additionally, he took home Gold in both the Senior and Junior Men’s +100 kg classes at the Queensland International Judo Open Championship.

Paula’s journey has seen him represent both New Zealand and the Australian Capital Territory, and he currently divides his time between Australia and Japan for training and family. With the long-term goal of qualifying for the Olympics, Paula needs your support to cover travel, accommodation, and everyday expenses.
