Hi everyone! :D

I’m about to shave my head for a very special reason — and I couldn’t be more excited to share why.

I’m one of the organizers of Bald for a Cause, a large fundraising event hosted by CRANES, a student organization at the University of Rochester dedicated to bringing light, hope, and support to individuals and families affected by cancer.

For this event, members of our community set a fundraising goal, launch their own campaigns, and then shave their heads on April 19th as a powerful symbol of solidarity with those who have faced or are currently facing cancer.

This cause is deeply meaningful for me.

As some of you might know, I once fought my own battle with Hodgkin's lymphoma. But today, I am a healthy 21-year-old who feels stronger than ever! Being on the other side of that journey is incredibly empowering — and it means the world to me to now have the choice to shave my head for a reason that brings hope and support to others who may not have the luxury of that choice.

One of the most beautiful ideas behind this event is changing what it means to see someone walking down the street without hair. Instead of something that brings pity or discomfort, it becomes a symbol of courage, strength, and solidarity.

A way of saying:

“You are not alone. We stand with you.”

Through this campaign, I hope to raise as much as possible to support Una Nueva Esperanza A. B. P., an organization in Puebla, Mexico that provides care and support for children with cancer and their families. Their mission and the work they do for families with limited resources have always been incredibly meaningful to me.

Pronto voy a raparme la cabeza por una razón muy especial — y no podría estar más emocionada de contarles por qué.

Soy una de las organizadoras de Bald for a Cause, un gran evento de recaudación de fondos organizado por CRANES, una organización estudiantil de la Universidad de Rochester dedicada a traer luz, esperanza y apoyo a las personas y familias afectadas por el cáncer.

Para este evento, miembros de nuestra comunidad establecen una meta de recaudación, lanzan sus propias campañas y luego se rapan la cabeza el 19 de abril como un poderoso símbolo de solidaridad hacia quienes han enfrentado o están enfrentando algún tipo de cáncer.

Esta causa tiene un significado gigantesco para mí.

Hace un tiempito tuve mi propia batalla contra el linfoma de Hodgkin. Hoy, soy una chica de 21 años completamente saludable y me siento más fuerte que nunca! Estar del otro lado de ese camino es increíblemente empoderador — y significa muchísimo para mí poder ahora decidir raparme la cabeza por una razón que trae esperanza y apoyo a quienes quizá hoy no tienen el lujo de elegir.

Una de las ideas más hermosas detrás de este evento es cambiar lo que significa ver a alguien caminando por la calle sin cabello. En lugar de algo que provoque lástima o incomodidad, se convierte en un símbolo de valentía, fuerza y solidaridad!

Una forma de decir:

“No estás solo. Estamos contigo!”

A través de esta campaña espero recaudar lo más posible para apoyar a Una Nueva Esperanza A. B. P., una organización en Puebla, México que brinda atención y apoyo a niños con cáncer y a sus familias. Su misión y el trabajo que realizan para ayudar a familias con recursos limitados siempre han tenido un lugar increíblemente especial en mi corazón.
