On December 6th Paula Lindsey was sent by ambulance to the ER with very aggressive back pain. While in the ER she had a CT scan. The results of the CT scan were colon Cancer that had spread to the liver, and spin. Paula was sent home with antibiotics, until her next appointment which was on December 8th. At this appointment she was told that she need to start chemo & Radiation ASAP and given medications to control the pain she was continuing to have in back. Later, that week she was taken to Stanford Hospital by her son. At the Stanford ER they confirmed that she had colon cancer that had spread to the liver and spine. On December 12th her Dr. at Stanford contacted the family and has put in place plan action. They will admit her to the Hospital in Stanford tomorrow December 13, 2023 were they will place a central line, take several biopsy's, start aggressive radiation, and possible surgery of the spine where the cancer has metastasize in multiple locations causing fractures.
We've created this fundraiser because going through something like this is an incredible financial burden as much as it is a physical and emotional one. What is raised will assist Paula and our family with navigating all of the costs associated with treatments, medications, Hospitalizations, travel, lodging and other expenses that are incurred.
If you know Paula, you know she is going to fight. We believe she can, along with the help with our family, and friends. We ask you keep Paula in your prayers as she takes on this treatment.
**Update** 12/31/2023
On 12/28 Paula was scheduled for her first Chemotherapy treatment at the Redwood City Stanford infusion center, however her pain had become uncontrollable with her current medication. Her Doctor sent her directly to the ER to get the pain under control. While in the ER they did a CT scan and found that she has an infection in her intestinal tract. She was immediately admitted and began getting IV antibiotics to get rid of the infection. She will stay in-patient through Tuesday 1/2/24 or Wednesday 1/3/24 during this stay they are focusing on the antibiotics, pain management and radiation to treat the spine tumor. Paula is in good spirits and expecting God to do a miracle in her life and health. Paula and her family thank you in advance for your prayers and financial support during this difficult time.
***Update 1/2/2024***
Doctor came in today and they will be doing verta-plasty tomorrow morning (1/3) around 11am. This procedure will ti place bone cement in the 2 areas where the spine is fractured. The Procedure will be about 2hrs and then recovery for 2hrs. After procedure is complete she will have an MRI to check the spine. This procedure could help eliminate up to 75% of the pain (please pray for this). If all goes well she could be released tomorrow after procedure. Radiation therapy will take place Thursday or Friday if insurance approves it.
Chemo therapy will start next week if all goes well the rest of the week.
***Pray peace for Paula, God to guide the surgeons hands and needles that will be used and insurance approval of radiation. Again, Paula and her family pray many blessings over all who have been in her corner praying, believing and giving.
1/6/24 UPDATE
Paula will continue to stay in the hospital this weekend and possibly part of next week. Her verta-plasty was partially completed due to pain and discomfort. There is a possibility of completing the verta-plasty under general anesthesia instead of sedation, if all goes well with her radiation on Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday of next week.
The plan for this weekend is continued pain control from this weeks procedure and rest until her busy schedule starts next week.
Thank you everyone again for the prayers and support May God bless everyone a hundred- fold for the generosity and countless I use prayers for Paula and her family
**Update 1/9/2024**
Paula has received her first Radiation today. She is very exhausted and has some pain in her back from positioning and treatment. Doctor is not comfortable sending her home until they have a good pain control regimen for home. Please continue praying for Gods healing and comfort. Tomorrow we will touch base with the team who did the Verta-plasty to find out if it will be beneficial to complete the un-finished portion of the verta-plasty procedure along with dates for chemotherapy. Thank you again everyone for your prayers and support.
