Paula Chebaibai Braitstein

As we mourn the loss of our beloved Paula, we are comforted by everything we love about her. Paula was a profoundly spiritual and loving wife, mother, sister, daughter, friend, auntie, colleague, fighter, advocate, teacher, counselor, and so much more to her friends and family worldwide. She loved deeply, laughed heartily and cared immensely. She was fiercely passionate about protecting our planet and regenerating the rainforests of western Kenya, particularly Kaptagat Forest, her home.

Paula blended the things she was passionate about into her work. She was recently promoted to full Professor with significant research contributions in protecting and supporting vulnerable youth. She taught, mentored and inspired students to appreciate the intersection of science, planetary health and humanity.

Many of us have vowed to continue Paula’s support of her family, including several school sponsorships. Her conservation efforts and continued support for marginalized individuals were of additional importance to Paula.
