Paul Thibodaux’s Myeloma Battle
Donation protected
On April 18, 2018, my husband, Paul Thibodaux, was diagnosed with Multiple myeloma. Multiple myeloma is a cancer that forms in a type of white blood cell called a plasma cell. Plasma cells help you fight infections by making antibodies that recognize and attack germs. Multiple myeloma causes cancer cells to accumulate in the bone marrow, where they crowd out healthy blood cells. Rather than produce helpful antibodies, the cancer cells produce abnormal proteins that can cause complications.
As many of you may know, Paul works for Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center. Unfortunately, this type of cancer needs an autologous stem cell transplant that they do not perform. His oncologist at MBPC referred us to the University of Arkansas Myeloma Institute. UAMI is THE best place in the country to be treated for Myeloma. Some would even say the world! So we know we are in great hands.
Unfortunately, for much of the next 3 years, we will be spending large chunks of time in Little Rock while coming home for small breaks. We have an apartment set up in Little Rock that is furnished and has everything we will need while Paul is undergoing treatment. So many of our friends and family have asked what they could do in the way of donations. I was very reluctant to begin this process, but after looking over the figures (medical bills, loss of pay, travel, lodging, etc.) I realize that we will need some help. Thank you to anyone who has begun this journey with us and we are so thankful for all of your kind thoughts and prayers! Keep them coming! We are determined to beat this!
