On Friday, December 3, 2021, Paul Rudy Matta suddenly and unexpectedly passed away from Covid-19 at home in his sleep. As anyone can imagine, this news comes as a shock to our family, friends and the community of Abilene. It's with a heavy heart to write this knowing Paul Rudy Matta impacted the community for decades. His untimely passing comes as a surprise emotionally and financially. So we're setting up a GoFundMe to offset costs associated with his passing. We thank you with the utmost appreciation for your contribution!


Paul Rudy Matta
- Born July 09, 1955 and passed away December 3, 2021.
- Served the Abilene community in several capacities ranging from March of Dimes, United Way, Noah Project Inc., and several other non-profit organizations. He served on the board of a few of these organizations as well.
- Officiated countless funerals and weddings around the Abilene area.
- Was known among retirement homes, hospitals and hospice facilities as the “whistling pastor”.
- Worked as a chaplain for Kinder Hearts and continued ministering throughout the community long after retirement.
- Survived by his wife, 6 children and 5 grandchildren.
