Paul Minns a man of many things, husband, dad, grumpy (grandad), partner in crime to some, mentor to many & mostly a friend to all. Always up for a chat & banter. Worked in treliske hospital for many years spreading joy and laughter amongst staff and patients until he was taken unwell with the big C. Most will know his health took a turn for the worst 8 years ago; prostate cancer, robot operations, 37 radiotherapy sessions which result in radiation burns throughout his bladder, resulting in a bladder removal and urostomy fitted. Continuous issues, UTI's, diabetes all of which led to kidney failure. He may have lost years of his life battling illness after illness, his quality of life wasn't great. But what got him through it all was waiting for the next football match. The chance to do what he loved, what he lived for. Throughout everything it never stopped him participating in local grassroots football across the country. Local youth games, disability tournaments, open age football- he did anything he possibly could. Always willing to give up his time to ensure people wouldn't miss out, help anyone who asked. If he was unable to physically referee he would be there helping with admin, mentoring new or younger referees- guiding them. Because that's the type of bloke he was- supporting grassroots football.
Sadly due to his health, his wife Sandra gave up work to care for him, appointments, medications, hospitals- the works. This gofundme has been set up on behalf of his wife and family, let's help them to send Paul to the pitch in the sky in with the funeral he so deservingly should have. So much love and support has been expressed since the announcement of his passing, he clearly touched a lot of hearts and lives and we hope we can show just how much he meant to us all.
Paul- what a bloke. Rest in peace & let's help blow that whistle one last time as we pay our respects and say goodbye.
*funeral details will be published in due course once sorted for anyone who would like to/are able to attend*
