UPDATE TO THIS FUNDRAISER 08/10/23

We are no longer accepting donations on this site. We would like to thank everyone who donated and supported the Paul Lamison Memorial Scholarship Fund on GoFundMe. You have no idea how much your generosity, kindness and love have lifted our family during the saddest time in our lives. The silver lining is that together we raised more than $18,000 that will directly support deserving University of South Florida Communication students who need it to fulfill their educational goals. All of the money raised in this GoFundMe account has been transferred to the USF Foundation where the Paul Lamison Memorial Scholarship is officially an endowment. The endowment will provide scholarships in Paul's memory to USF students forever beginning in Fall 2023. If you would like to continue supporting the Paul Lamison Memorial Scholarship Fund so we can award even more scholarships in Paul's memory, please visit the USF Foundation site: https://usf.to/PaulLamison

Thank you so much.

Much love and appreciation,

Nerissa, Ava, Emily and Kate

August 2022:

It is with great sadness that the family of Paul "Tatay" Lamison announces his sudden passing on August 3rd, 2022, in Tampa, Florida. He was 57 years old.

Paul was a loving and devoted husband to his wife, Nerissa; the best girl dad to his daughters, Emily, Kate, Ava, and Emma; and an amazing cat dad to Pogie and Thor. He will always be remembered as a kind, caring, patient husband and father who would do anything for his girls and cat boys. Most importantly, Paul encouraged and supported all of their goals, hopes and dreams. Paul is also survived by his loving sisters, Carol Ann and Ellen, and brothers, Glen, Eric, and Donald.

Paul was born on December 22, 1964, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He is a graduate of Lakeland High School, Polk Community College, and the University of South Florida where he received his Bachelor of Arts in Communication.

Paul launched his broadcast career in radio under the alias “Maverick Brown,” rocking the local music airwaves in the early 90s. In 1993, Paul began working for WFLA TV-News Channel 8, starting as a news intern, working his way up to serve as the station’s longest-standing Chief Photojournalist. At the height of his career, he was most well-known as the station’s beloved Eagle 8 helicopter reporter.

Paul was a joyful soul, who delighted in making others laugh and celebrating life’s big and small moments. He was generous and acted selflessly. He loved documenting the Bay Area, both in the sky and on the ground. He enjoyed playing softball, listening to music, riding his Vespa around the city and was the Tampa Bay Rays biggest fan.

A Memorial Service and celebration of Paul’s life is scheduled for Tuesday, August 16th at 5 pm at Blount & Curry Funeral Home located at 605 S. MacDill Avenue, with a reception to follow.

To honor Paul’s memory and dedication to his career, his family will be setting up a scholarship in his name to support students entering the field of broadcast journalism. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Paul Lamison Memorial Scholarship GoFundMe page.

Paul’s family would like to thank the entire Tampa Bay community for all the love, support, care and attention during this time.
