Hi, my name is Kim Quam. Craig, my husband, and Paul are the best of friends. They work together, hunt together, and I swear they talk to each other more than Shari or I. ;) So when Paul told Craig earlier this month that he had been experiencing some “pretty scary symptoms” since October—Craig told him to get his ass to the doctor, which he did.

 

This is what we found out after several tests and scans. Paul has been diagnosed with Stage Zero Sigmoid Colon Cancer. Paul and his doctors are optimistic as it appears to be very treatable. From the outside, things look good—as it looks as though it has not spread—but more will be revealed once they operate and remove the cancerous portion of his colon.

 

Paul’s journey has just begun, and who knows how long it will be till he is diagnosed cancer-free. What we do know is that, like many Americans, his safety net is lacking. Thank goodness he has insurance from his employer, but the deductible is high. He is also blessed to get PTO each year. Still, he will use that up quickly as he attends doctor appointments, has multiple procedures, and takes the time he needs to recover.
