As some of you may know, for the past three years, I have been in a legal battle with my landlord. It has been very challenging to say the least.
Three years ago my roommate and I (also my former boyfriend) discovered that we were being overcharged by our landlord. We were both interested moving on as we had decided to end our relationship, but we found it impossible to move with the huge rent increase the landlord imposed upon us.
We notified the landlord of our discovery and explained how there was no way the rent could legally be increased that much without the proper repairs being done. We even had a contractor come over and assess the situation, and he came up with the exact same conclusion. The landlord continued to overcharge us. We had no choice then but to take legal action.
This was then dragged on for three years by the landlord. During these three years Hell ascended upon us. My roommate had a serious heart condition for which he had to be hospitalized, I was without a steady job for about 8 months, the bathroom roof collapsed, the landlord tried to get us to slander other tenants in the building, I had to live with my ex boyfriend for three years, the list goes on.
As you can imagine this was a very difficult and depressing time for us that seemed to have no clear end in sight until recently.
We have finally come to an agreement with the landlord and although the stress is coming to an end, my savings have been completely wiped out. I don't have all of the money required to cover the legal fees, moving fees, and remaining rent owed.
I'm so close to finally being able to move on with my life, but I really do need a little help from my friends. If you would have asked me to setup one of these pages a year ago, I would not have been able to do it. I have never asked my friends for money. It's very hard for me, but out of sheer necessity and encouragement from true friends, I have swallowd my pride and am asking for your help.
If you can donate, I would be ever so grateful. The money will be put to good use and nothing will be wasted.
