Paul Bokun Fights Cancer

My name is Paul Bokun and my teammates are setting up a Go Fund Me page for me.  

I currently live in New Jersey and I went to Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic School on the west side of Manhattan.  I began playing roller hockey in the P.A.L. Roller Hockey League and for the school in the C.Y.O. League.  I started playing ice hockey at West New York Arena in NJ, then Flushing Arena and also at Flushing Arena in Queens NY at the World’s Fair site.

I continued with my love and passion for the game while playing in the Metropolitan Junior Hockey Leagues.  Some of my teammates went on to play pro hockey.  They are brothers Joe and Brian Mullen, who both had fantastic NHL careers with Joe receiving three Stanley Cup Championship rings and amazing 500 plus goals.   He also was inducted into the NHL Hockey Hall of Fame. I continue to this day to play in men’s league in Hackensack, NJ and until recently was a coach at the NJ Avalanche program.


I have 4 children with one daughter and 3 sons.  All of my boys played hockey and my youngest is currently skating with the Avalanche in Hackensack. 
I could use some financial assistance while I battle cancer.  I found out last March that I had cancer in my jawbone.I had the bone removed and my face was surgically reconstructed using my fibula bone.  I underwent 12.5 hours of reconstruction to my face.I had surgery in May of 2018 and a second surgery in June of 2018 to try and close a hole in my cheek area.  The reason for the second surgery was to remove more cancer. 
I have just finished up chemotherapy and radiation so at this point I must wait 14 weeks while I recover and hope that the cancer is gone.  I had my surgery at Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital in NYC.  I have been without any income since May of 2018 less the short term disability which amounted to $170 per week NYS disability.
