Nuestro primo Paul Baderna de 28 años de edad vive en Venezuela. Hoy se encuentra en terapia intensiva y necesita nuestra ayuda urgente. Trágicamente, fue víctima de un accidente de transito en el 2014, lo que conlleva a que presente hoy en día un traumatismo craneoencefálico severo con múltiples fracturas craneales e intervención quirúrgica, complicado con fistula craneal y meningoencefalitis.

 

Hoy, Paul esta pasando por un momento sumamente complicado mientras batalla por su vida en terapia intensiva, luego de empezar su día con un status epiléptico tonico-clonico generalizado, cefalea de fuerte intensidad, múltiples crisis sin recuperación de la conciencia, lenguaje incoherente. Y con un cuadro de meningoencefalitis bacteriana agudo y una infección en el tracto urinario.

 

Lamentablemente, Venezuela tiene uno de los peores servicios de salud del mundo. Los hospitales están extremadamente mal financiados y apenas funcionan. Los pacientes deben suministrar su propia medicina la mayoría de las veces. Algo tan básico, como una botella de alcohol isopropilico puede no existir en muchos hospitales.

Our 28-year-old cousin Paul Baderna lives in Venezuela. Today he is in intensive care and needs our urgent help. Tragically, he was the victim of a traffic accident in 2014, which today leads to severe head trauma with multiple skull fractures and surgery, complicated by cranial fistula and meningoencephalitis.

 

Today, Paul is going through an extremely difficult time as he battles for his life in intensive care, after starting his day with generalized tonic-clonic status epilepticus, severe headache, multiple crises without recovery of consciousness, and incoherent language. And with a scenario of critical bacterial meningoencephalitis and infection in the urinary tract.

 

Unfortunately, Venezuela has one of the worst health systems in the world. Hospitals are grossly underfunded and barely functional. Patients need to supply their own medicine most of the time. Something as basic as a bottle of isopropyl alcohol may not exist in many hospitals.
