Patty Jean Barquin Saunders is a true warrior. She's not just my big sister she is my rock, strength and constant support. She's always there to help not just me but family, friends and strangers. Always giving, always sharing, always so caring.
It was heart breaking when she lost her 24 year old
son in 2000, she was strong and supported family and friends. In 2006 she started her battle with breast cancer, over coming that with flying colors. Just a few short years later she would battle and conquer colon cancer. To be followed with lung cancer where 40% of her left lung had to be removed. Through pain that still is there today she beat and obliterated that with the strength and courage that most of us could not muster. Life was getting back to normal and we were all looking forward to putting all the doctor visits, treatments and worse the blood draws behind us. Just a few weeks ago I had to do DNA testing to see if I could be at risk for any forms of cancer. Thanks to the extensive testing she had done they were able to use her report to determine I and any male in the family should be at low to no risk.
Friday September 11 we were out shopping, eating and having fun planing dinner for all our birthdays Saturday night. Saturday morning we were texting and she was so excited that the grand babies would be coming over about 8am and she would be spending the day with them before out night out. About 2 hours after her last text I received a text saying how really sick she was and not sure why. That text was quickly followed by a second text that was not so clear, she was so sick and her head was bleeding and she had no idea why. She had fallen asleep for a few hours to wake up with blood all over her shirt and the house and that she was light headed. We headed over and found her sitting at the table all hunched over feeding the baby. It was clear she was not alright and we had no idea what had happened, Mark rushed her to the ER.
That afternoon we found out it was a seizure and it had caused her to pass out and hit her head when she fell. But worse that her cancer had returned and this time it was in her brain. Sunday morning they scheduled the 5 hour surgery and removed the tumor. Because of the seizure and surgery she can not drive for 3 months by Arizona Law. She will start her radiation treatment in 4-6 weeks and will not be able to work for several months. Her extended leave will not cover her expenses or medical costs. We have created this fund so that family, friends, and perfect strangers can help her out just like she has for years. As much as she enjoys flowers and plants a small donation will be a huge help. I am hoping we can reach our goal of $3000 in 3 months so she has less stress to deal with and can concentrate on getting well.
If you have any questions please feel free to contact me.
