Help Patti Kick Cancer’s Butt Again!

I have started this page for my dear sister, Patti—a loving mother of seven, a wife, and a conqueror of cancer! In 2015, many of you stepped up to help Patti and her husband Mike with the bills that came from her battle with Leukemia. After a successful bone marrow transplant and months of intense recovery in Richmond (away from her home in Newport News, VA), Patti has been blessed with six years of clean scans and biopsies.

This clean streak came to a halt in November 2021.

I can only imagine how Patti and Mike’s hearts sunk when they heard the words that something didn’t look right on Patti’s scans. Thank God she was being checked so frequently, as they caught this most recent cancer early!

Patti has been diagnosed with Stage Two Breast Cancer. Her lumpectomy indicated it has not spread to her lymph nodes, for which we are all incredibly grateful. However, with Patti’s past history, the doctors are going at this cancer quickly and in full force. Patti and Mike are right now preparing to start another long treatment journey with chemotherapy and radiation.

We all have seen how financially devastating medical costs can be. Patti and Mike had just gotten their heads above water after the bone marrow transplant and the ongoing out-of-pocket expenses. In order to make ends meet over the years, they sold their house and downsized to a rental while Mike worked a second job on weekends. Patti has been unable to work over the past several years since her treatment—something that they were hoping could change as Patti’s strength and mental clarity had made great improvements recently.

With the new cancer diagnosis, Patti and Mike will see new bills start to pile up quickly. There is no nest egg to rely on anymore, no house on which to take out a second mortgage. They are guided by a strong faith in God and will do whatever it takes to get through these immense challenges.
