When I read her post on social media, I just knew that we all needed to help. Let me share with you some of Patti's own words -

"Hello my darlings! It's been a minute since I could really rally the headspace to post, but today I feel stronger and clearer than I have felt in several weeks. It's a hooooray kind of day.
For those that don't know, 18 hours of surgery really damaged my lungs. So I have in-home PT and in-home nursing working with me to get strength back. Gaining ten paces a day is HUGE. I also have a wound vac to contend with because when this train derailed it really crashed in spectacular fashion and I have about 6 more weeks of battling that front.
Thank you for the flowers, the cards, the meals, the cookies--- for such an outpouring of love and support --- I am truly overwhelmed. With all my heart and soul, thank you!
This healthcare debacle really kicked my ass. Completely. It flattened me. But inch my inch I am on my way back. Scratching and clawing my way back like busted up old ally cat. Lol. Your sarcastic ray of sunshine is going shine bright again. For now-- it's PT time and must do loops around the garden ! :)

Let me start at the beginning, but not the very beginning. My dearest, most vibrant, most animal loving, most caring, sweetest cousin Patti Casey has Stage 1 breast cancer. According to the CDC, "Breast cancer is the second most common cancer among women in the United States." "About 1 in 8 U.S. women (about 12%) will develop invasive breast cancer over the course of her lifetime." - BreastCancer.org.
But, Patti is a WARRIOR. She has had her ups, and she has had her downs with recovery. But it seems that her downs in recovery are severely outweighing her ups, right now. It has been a long, long road that has knocked her off of her feet. As it turns out, Patti has a very rare blood clotting disorder that was discovered during her 18 hour long reconstructive surgery. The doctors hoped they could work their magic and forged ahead. Within a week or two it was determined that her surgery was a failure. Due to the extensive tissue death, Patti went back into the hospital for an additional surgery to completely remove her reconstruction.
Her recovery doesn’t just involve healing of her body, but her soul. We all know her spirit is strong, but her soul needs healing, too. The challenges ahead are daunting, but not insurmountable. It would go a long way to her healing if she didn’t have to worry about the thing that causes us all stress, money.
Patti is back to square one. As a team, we can help Patti in ways she truly needs us right now.
I started this campaign to help ease some of the financial troubles that come with such a serious illness and the invasive surgery that follows, her recovery, and her delicate future. When one of our own is down, we all step in to help them back up. We can lend a helping hand to help take some of the pressure off Patti has she heals and prepares for what lies ahead!
