While out of town for work in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, Kyle Patterson injured his ribs on September 24, 2020. After several days, the pain had not subsided and became severe enough to warrant a visit to the emergency room. The X-ray revealed abnormalities around the lungs leading the ER doctor to suspect lymphoma.

He was released and directed to return home to DeBerry, Texas and follow-up with further testing. Within three days of his ER visit, Kyle's doctor in Longview confirmed the worst. It was Stage 4B lymphoma-which type was still unknown. Kyle had to be hospitalized as an enlarged lymph node blocked his airway collapsing one of his lungs. Once stabilized in the ICU, he underwent several procedures: a full-body CAT scan, a bone biopsy, a neck lymphadenectomy, and installation of a chest port for future chemotherapy treatments.

After several days, Kyle was able to move from the ICU to a step-down unit under observation as he awaited results. His diagnosis came in on Wednesday, October 7, 2020- Nodular Sclerosis Hodgkin's Lymphoma with enlarged nodes in his neck, chest, armpits, around the kidneys, and lesions on his liver and spleen.

Nodular Sclerosis Hodkin's Lymphoma is treatable, but at his stage with a 60-70% survival rate with a recurrence rate of 40-50% within the first 2 years. Though it is treatable, Kyle has a long, hard six months of chemo ahead of him. But this journey is not his alone to bear.

Kyle is a loving husband and compassionate father of five. Kameron, Austin, Wyatt, Levi and Jenna. Before being a Journeyman Lineman with the IBEW, he was a firefighter and EMT in the Tyler area. He volunteered to protect and save lives alongside his brothers in the fire company. He is giving and willing to help a friend or stranger in need at any time.

Kyle was the sole financial provider for his family, as his wife, Gennie, runs their farm raising and fostering free-range children, chickens, cows, horses and donkeys. Now with the inability to work and the expensive medical bills, their family will be not only emotionally stressed but financially as well. Please help by donating and sharing the Patterson's story during this unforeseen time.

Kyle, I want to say this from the bottom of my heart: as a brother of mine, through many years of friendship, from working together to save lives to now watching you provide for your family, I am honored to begin helping support you and your family. -James Reeves
