Pat's "Life of Adventure" wish

Donation protected

My name is Carly and I’ve known Pat Langfield for only a couple of years, but he has changed my life forever.

Pat was born with a disease called Cystic Fibrosis. To summarise CF without going into too much detail, Cystic fibrosis is an inherited disorder that causes severe damage to the lungs, digestive system and other organs in the body. Having this life-shortening disease has set Pat on a path of constant hospital stays to be given medication to keep him breathing.  Pat’s family was told that he wouldn’t live past the age of 12; he is now 21.  He did have a wish to visit Dreamworld fulfilled when he was 7, but he only vaguely remembers it.

Because of the constant hospital stays and the associated complications that Cystic Fibrosis can cause, Pat hasn’t been able to work, finish his apprenticeship in cabinet making, or travel.  I think it’s terribly sad that Pat hasn’t been able to live the life that many other people his age do.

But Pat wouldn’t be the one to tell you that.  I’m not exaggerating when I say that Pat is the most caring, selfless and humble person I’ve met.  He’s never one to complain about his station in life, preferring to take interest in the well-being of others.  He told me some bad news about his treatment today, only to follow it with a question about how I was.  Pat’s infectious positivity and zest for life always lifts the spirits of those around him, and I think it’s about time that the people touched by his humanity give something back to him.

Pat has always wanted to go to Japan.  He is a fan of anime, and the culture of the people and the unique architecture have piqued his interest in seeing the different regions of Japan with his own eyes.  He wants to explore the major cities, learn about their history and take in the countryside.  But, he needs our help.

First, Pat must have a lung transplant and have significant recovery time before embarking on this adventure, but I would like him to have a 2 week adventure in Japan waiting for him when he’s ready.

Below is an itemised list of the things that will be purchased with the money raised (values are approximate because the exact time of the trip is unknown, and currently based on prices gathered for September 2017).

Airfares, Brisbane to Tokyo, Return - $1,200

14 nights’ accommodation (3 star @ $150 per night) - $2,100

7 day rail pass - $400

Spending money (Food, Activities, Sightseeing, Transport/Taxi) - $3,300

Flexibility for changes of prices in accommodation/flights - $500

Total - $7,500.

*Disclaimer*

Obviously I am confident that Pat will get the transplant that he needs and want nothing more than for him to receive that.  But if tragedy strikes and he is unable to go on this trip of a lifetime, I would like it known that the money raised will be given to Pat’s family.
