Patrick's Journey to Santa Monica College

Hi, my name is Patrick, and I’m reaching out with an open heart and a big dream: to move to California this September and build the future I’ve been working toward for as long as I can remember. I’ve always been in awe of the natural world—especially plants. The way they grow, the patterns they follow, their quiet strength and beauty… it’s what led me to pursue a degree in horticulture.

Ever since I was a kid, I dreamed of living in California. The landscapes, the energy, the sense of possibility—it’s always felt like the place where I could truly thrive. Now I’ve taken real steps to make that dream happen: I’ve been accepted to Santa Monica College, I’m saving every penny I can, and I’m pushing through 12-hour days walking door-to-door for Verizon, all while maintaining straight As as a full-time student.

But I could use a little help crossing the finish line. My goal is to raise $10,000 to help cover the cost of moving, housing, transportation, and basic essentials while I get on my feet. I’ve worked hard, and I’ll keep working—but a bit of support right now would mean the world.

To me, this move isn’t just about geography. It’s about stepping into a new chapter with a fresh canvas and a whole new palette of colors. It’s about building community, gaining perspective, and growing into the person I’ve always hoped to become.

My role model is my sister Sabrina—she went from community college to UVA, then from the Met in NYC to her brand new roll at Sotheby’s International. Watching her chase her dreams taught me it is possible, and I want to do the same in my own way—with dirt under my fingernails and roots in the garden.
