Patrick’s Cancer Treatment and Living Expences

Donation protected
Hello everyone. Thank you for taking the time to read this. I’d like to start by explaining what happened.

So at the beginning of July, my Dad (Patrick OBrien) was experiencing chest pain, trouble breathing, fatigue and just generally not feeling himself. He and my Mom went to get tested for Covid just incase. The next day, my Dad was feeling worse so My Mom took him to their local Urgent Care in Johnson City. They did an x-ray and noticed what looked like a large amount of fluid build up in one of his lungs. They suggested that he head to the ER right away. Once he was at the hospital, they did multiple tests and  did a procedure to drain the fluid from his lung.

Mean time, they ran some tests on the fluid and found mesothelioma cells. So they prepared him for surgery so that they could take a better look at what was going on inside his lungs and that's when they found multiple small tumors and one larger tumor in on the back side of his lung near the aorta.

They did a couple other tests and diagnosed him with Stage Four, Malignant Pleural Mesothelioma and the doctors told him he would have less than a year to live. We all were devastated and completely blind sided by this.

Because this type of cancer is extremely rare, (fewer than 20,000 cases a year) his treatment options where he lives in Tennessee are slim to none. To get the best possible treatment he is going to have to relocate. Which means, leave his home, pack up (with my Mom and their dogs) and move somewhere we he can be close to a treatment center that specializes in Mesothelioma Cancer. This will be his only chance at getting this under control to hopefully be with us for multiple more years.

This type of cancer is a very fast paced progressive cancer and he is already in the later stages of it so we have to move fast to get him to treatment.

For those of you who know my Dad, you know he is an incredibly giving man and would give the shirt off his back to help someone in need. He is a retired nurse and actually worked with cancer patients at the VA for many years. He is a Navy Veteran and a  loving Father, Husband and Grandpa!

I am asking for urgent financial help for many things, some of which are covering the expense to re-locate to be near the best treatment center we have here in states, covering the mortgage and utilities until we can figure out what the plan for their current home is, travel expenses, treatment expenses that aren’t always covered by insurance, as well as organic nutritious fruits and vegetables so that he can continue to juice daily and fuel his body to have a better chance at winning this battle.

If you are in a place where you can afford to help, it will truly be a blessing and help to reduce some of the burdens that I know are weighing him and all of us down. Myself and my entire family cannot thank you enough.

Let’s all stay strong in prayer that with everyone’s support, my Dad will get through this, have success with treatment, be here to walk my sister and I down the isle for our weddings and be around to watch his grandsons grow up.

Thank you and God Bless you.
