Patrick's Insurance While Hiking
Donation protected
Hi gang, it's Patrick. I'm going hiking in April 2019, on the Pacific Crest Trail. It's a bucket list thing. I've been mulling over it for two years, now; thinking I would hike the Appalachian Trail, when I was introduced to the PCT. I changed my mind almost immediately when I learned I could walk from Mexico to Canada. Now, the time is here. Circumstances are right, and I want to get it done while I'm still able-bodied enough to do it. I know my supply points, I have an awesome team ready to hold down the fort while I'm off the grid for long periods, and I have a budget. Part of my budget includes keeping my insurance going while I'm on the trail, because, you know; it's dangerous. I'll be on the trail for five months, and the insurance is $500 per month. My friends suggested I start a campaign to help with the costs of going, and I thought if I could get help with this important part of the cost, that would be a way I could ask for help that I feel comfortable with. My mom will definitely be happy to know I've locked down health insurance while I'm out there. I'm asking for 2K, because that seems attainable, and I might be super awesome and finish in four months. If you all find it in your hearts and wallets to give more, then the additional would go towards the full amount of the insurance and then resupplies and replacement gear. Fun fact: previous thru hikers tell me to expect to go through 3-5 pairs of shoes/boots, and for my feet to swell up to two sizes larger!
