My name is Karly Taylor, and this is our story.
My dad, Patrick Taylor, was admitted into the hospital on July 2, 2018 after he passed out at his doctors office. After a few days of being sick, my dad went in just hoping it was something small and that he could return to work that day. Instead, he ended up in the hospital.
We left the hospital that night with my dad laying in a normal room, with a fan that we bought from Target to try and keep him cool. By the time we had woken up the next morning, my dad was in the ICU fighting for his life after an emergency surgery in the middle of the night. A CT Scan showed that my father had dead tissue in his right buttock. They went in and found Fournier Gangrene that had expanded and killed most of the tissue in that area. The infection was deep, and had spread into his bloodstream, making him septic. They removed over half of the right buttock, and the infection was still there.
The next 72 hours were going to determine if my father was going to live.
After seven surgeries and over two weeks of intensive hospital care, my father is awake, alive, and fighting harder than ever.
We are blessed that my father's determination helped him fight to make it this far. Now, my father is recovering slowly, but he will need a few months and some skin graphs to help the large area heal properly. We will need at home antibiotics, home health care, and wound care for several weeks after my father is released. We found out recently that his job can no longer pay him while he is out of work.
We normally would not do this, but between the expensive medication my father will need, and the recent loss of income, we are afraid of what the next few months will hold. Several friends have suggested this idea, and at this point, we will try anything. The amount listed is all we need to make up the money needed to survive until my father is able to go back to work. This money will help us pay the bills for our medication and to help give my dad the resources he needs to heal quickly and make it back to work.
