On November 11, 2018, Patrick fell 30 feet from a ladder while trimming a tree in his yard. Miraculously he did not hit his head and had his phone in his pocket and was able to call 911, which saved his life.
He sustained extensive injuries (crushed spine, collapsed lung, internal bleeding and broken ribs and sternum) and endured 6 hours of surgery that day and then another 2 hours of surgery the next day. He spent 12 days in ICU at Duke University. He currently is still in the hospital and stable but facing another surgery to repair his 11 broken ribs and maybe another stay in ICU.
Patrick is a very strong man, and has every chance of walking again but we have no idea how long that might be. These other injuries have hampered his ability to begin physical therapy to overcome his spinal cord injury. That road is going to involve rehabilitation and unforeseen medical costs beyond what have already been incurred.
We want to help Patrick in any way we can to get back into his garden doing what he loves to do (and providing us all those delicious vegetables!) and back working with all his wonderful colleagues the he has so much fun with. We want to see his posts of JAD again!!
Many of you of have asked how you can help. Patrick will be out of work for a long period of time and his medical bills and rehab will be expensive. He may need special equipment or accommodations to be able to get back home with Sadie. We would be forever grateful for any help you can to take some of this financial burden off of him.
Most importantly, we thank God that Patrick is here with us and going to be okay. We also want to say thanks for the overwhelming amount of prayers and wishes for healing from Patrick’s friends, co-workers and family. They have given him a tremendous amount of hope. Please continue to pray for Patrick’s full and speedy recovery
