On Tuesday, February 25, Pat had his first Grand Mal seizure. He was alone with his 4 year old son, Connor, at the time. His second Grand Mal Seizure happened 2 hours later at home and luckily, he was with James and I so we were able to keep him safe while calling 911. He was taken to the hospital by ambulance and shortly after he arrived he had his worst seizure yet. It lasted over 10 minutes and he bit his tongue so bad that his tongue has a hematoma and is swollen and makes it very difficult to talk and eat.
He was admitted to the neurology floor the same day for treatment and monitoring.
So far, his CT, MRI, Blood Work, EEG, and urinalysis have all come back clear.
He was due to be released home on February 27th but it was discovered that he has not been able to retain his short term memory and has trouble recalling dates and times of past events. His strength has also not returned as much as it should have at this point in time. This has led his neurologist to order a Lumbar Puncture and look for an infection in his brain. He so now has fluid in his lungs so he is being kept on bed rest and is being started on anti viral medication.
Pat is the soul earner for our family and while his boss is incredibly understanding and caring, we still have no idea how long he will be in the hospital or how much this will all cost.
