Hello to friends and family,
I am creating this go fund me in hope for financial/emotional support and prayers during a difficult time for my Uncle Pat and the McAssey family. As some of you close to the family may know my uncle Pat had been forced into early retirement while battling stage 3 esophageal cancer due to his decline in health and strength. Retirement hasn’t been all the glory one would hope, but a constant reminder of a fixed income and continued struggles with health challenges.
Uncle Pat was having trouble breathing, swallowing, and was in pain which led him to be checked out at a local ER. He was then transferred to Northwestern Memorial downtown on 7/6/25 due to a complexity of competing health issues to consult with specialists including Hem & Onc, ENT, infectious disease, Cardiology, Neuro and renal doctors. What he had hoped would be a quick fix, ended up being an 11 day stay downtown.
Findings included a rare life-threatening bacterial infection, A jugular vein blood clot requiring ongoing medical care and close monitoring and stage four chronic kidney disease which brings fatigue weakness and dialysis to be started. It was also discovered he has severe cervical spine compression placing pressure on his spinal cord and adding significant pain/restrictions and neurological risks. Each of these conditions is serious on its own, together they’ve created an overwhelming physical, emotional and financial burden. He is battling several complex comorbidities right now. And his prognosis is guarded. The family can use our support at this time while they navigate through his healing. During these 11 days my uncle Pat had several procedures, including tooth extraction due to an impacted infected tooth and will also need funds for new teeth to help the upkeep of his nutrition and comfort.
Despite everything, he continues to fight with quiet courage and determination. My uncle Pat is someone very close to my heart and they like to stay private, but I know there are many who would love to support them through this difficult time. Many of us want him to stick around. He has grandchildren on the way he’d like to meet and he still has the drive to stay with his family and keep fighting. Thank you for reading. Your generous donations will go towards the mounting medical bills, specialist visits, along with many new medications of which are not fully covered by insurance.
