Patrick Bloedorn’s new journey

Donation protected
I’m Sarah, Patrick’s wife. We have been together for over 30 years after meeting in a theater workshop for disabled and able-bodied actors. Pat is totally blind and a juvenile diabetic and at that time he had a big German Shepard guide dog named Stewart. I found out later that he had lost his eyesight in a motorcycle accident as a younger man.
In the years that followed we were able to create theater, travel the country on adventures, share our home with a number of service dogs and other pets. We supported each other in our interests and activities over the years and in that time
Patrick seldom let his blindness or diabetes become an obstacle. We even flew to Cape Cod to get married in 2017.
He had a big personality and an even bigger sense of compassion and justice.
Patrick never hesitated to give help or friendly advice to anyone who needed it.
he was often found at the local coffee spot greeting everyone who passed by or making a new friend while discussing his love for dogs and classic cars.
Patrick was a big believer in service work and was an active member of the Lake Oswego Lions Club. He also worked as a Salvation Army bell ringer at Christmas time for over 20 years and sat on the board of directors at the Portland Alano Club.
For most of his life Patrick has worked to be healthy and independent despite injuries and health issues related to his diabetes, including a stroke and the amputation of part of his foot.
However, as a result of several falls and muscle weakness, Patrick has been staying in a rehab facility for several months and has been unable to return home.
We have enrolled him in Medicaid and other programs, but still have many bills and expenses. He spends much of his time alone and bored in bed.
I work full time and take care of our home so that Patrick has a place to visit as he tries to recover. At this point he can not live at home, but it is important that he knows he has a home to go to.
Our goal for this fundraiser is to is to create a financial cushion to allow us time to find Patrick an adult care home that can give him support and community while he starts on the road to recovery, a place that can provide the specialized care he needs as well as the social interaction that is essential to his wellness.
Patrick has a huge group of people out there who are grateful for his friendship and support. If any of them would like to return the favor this would be an excellent way to show that they are there for him
