This is from Michelle, Pat's wife: In November my husband Patrick Guthrie started getting short of breath, we thought it was just pneumonia. After the doctors looked at his catscan, they swore he had covid, he did not. All tests came back Negative. What we did find out after months and months of testing, biopsies, lung flushes etc.. and a fast decline in health, My husband was diagnosed with idiopathic Interstitial Lung Disease ( which litterally means they have no idea) with multiple autoimmune diseases called an overlap attacking his lungs and its progressing very quickly. He's on multiple immunosuppressive meds and chemo, amongst many more meds. He's spent months in the hospitals back and forth. We travel to Advent Hospital in Orlando every Monday and once a month to see all of his doctors there in a spread of multiple days as he had many. If he is able to walk a mile on a treadmill he will be put on the Lung transplant list. We purchased machines to do physical therapy at home, We had to rip out our shower and put in one with no curb and wide enough that get in with him as he's so weak I have to bathe him. I take him to Martin health for pulmonary physical therapy Tuesdays and Thursdays and then Orlando Advent Hospital on Mondays. He is in full time wheel chair as he can't walk without being on 15-25 liters of oxygen and the oxygen places here don't have them that high so were also dealing with unconditioning and atrophy. When put on the list we will have to move to orlando for 4 months as he will be in ICU a week, then step down a week, and have to be at the Advent Transplant hos
pital 5 days a week for 3-4 months, and thats the plan if everything goes smoothe He will be on over 20 medications for the rest of his life and this group of doctors will become like family for the rest of his life. This man has been my rock for 19 years and through my 2 year horrific battle with Breast Cancer, 13 surgeries in a year and a half, multiple icu and hospitalizations, he was always by my side. I could not and don't want to do life without him. Even in the last couple days, we met new scares as storms where you may lose electric, his life depends on this machine, and our a/c went Wonky and froze up and his oxygen numbers dropped quickly, He is my everything!
