Our friend and former event industry colleague, Patrick Doyle, lost everything the their night when their home in Kingston, South Australia was completely destroyed by fire.
Susan, his wife, barely made it out. Tragically, their beloved dogs Oscar and Mercy did not survive.
Susan is currently at Burns Unit at the Royal Adelaide Hospital for specialist assessment and care. While we are incredibly grateful her injuries are not life-threatening, the reality is they have lost their home, their belongings, their sense of normality, and two much-loved family members in the space of a single night.
Patrick is currently staying at the local caravan park. His plumber generously covered the first three nights accommodation and I have just extended that by another two nights to make sure he has somewhere safe to stay for now.
But anyone who has dealt with insurance companies knows this is not a quick process. The paperwork, assessments, temporary accommodation, approvals, rebuilding and trying to piece your life back together can take months, sometimes years. They have a very long road ahead of them.
Anyone who works in events knows how quickly life can change. One moment you are planning, building, solving problems and looking after others. The next, everything you know is gone.
Many people have already reached out asking how they can help, so we are setting up this fundraiser to support Susan and Patrick as they navigate the days and weeks ahead.
Funds raised will help with:
• Immediate clothing and essentials
• Temporary accommodation and recovery costs
• Replacing basic household items
• Supporting Susan during her recovery
• Giving them breathing space whilst they work out what comes next
If you are able to contribute, no matter how small, it would mean the world.
If you cannot donate, sharing this page and keeping Susan and Patrick in your thoughts is equally appreciated.
Thank you for the kindness, support and compassion already shown.
