Hello, my name is Patricia and I have been a type 1 diabetic since I was 6 years old, I am currently 19 years old.  Diabetes is an autoimmune disease that cannot be prevented or cured. My body does not produce the insulin needed to turn the carbohydrates I eat, into energy therefor I take insulin via pen shots about five times a day. 
When I was 14 years old I held a bake sale to help meet the 1.5k my insurance would not cover. I was fortunately successful and have been using that insulin pump until it broke a few months back in may.
My insulin pump unfortunately broke out of warranty  and I cannot depend on my family or my insurance company to help  me out, which is why I have reached out to the gofundme community. 
I have tried many months to control my diabetes on simply controlling my diet and pen shots but my blood sugar is constantly out of range, which heavily impacts my quality of life  in a very serious and potentially life threatening manner. I have had multiple  hospitalizations due to Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA) triggered by external stress.  Due to help from my endocrinologist and their office's social worker, I have no longer needed to ration out my insulin  and as a result have needed less hospitalizations. However I am struggling  to keep my blood sugar in target which is detrimental to my health.
With  an insulin pump I can effectively control my blood sugar and live a healthier life.
