As a friend and former student of Patricia Shearn Honeygosky at Montour High School, I was blessed to spend much time with her during the later years of her life. After suffering a stroke that left her paralyzed on her left side, Pat faced every challenge with courage and determination. Though confined to a wheelchair, she worked tirelessly to remain as independent as possible and never gave up. With the loving support of her former student Mary Beth Dodson Craig, she learned new ways to manage her disability and approached life with grace and resilience.
Pat was so much more than a teacher — she was a mentor, a role model, and a true friend to countless students over the years. Her impact reached far beyond the classroom, shaping lives with her encouragement and wisdom. In honor of the way she inspired so many, her former students and friends would like to continue her legacy by establishing the Pat Shearn Gymnastics Award for deserving students at Montour High School.
In lieu of flowers, we invite contributions toward this award so that Pat’s spirit of perseverance, mentorship, and love for her students will live on in the next generation.
