Patric, my 2 year old grandson has a rare disease called tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC). TSC causes tumors to form in vital organs such as the brain, eyes, heart, lungs, kidneys, liver and skin.  TSC is also the leading genetic cause of both epilepsy and autism and unfortunately Patric has both.

Patric was diagnosed at birth with the TSC gene mutation.  His heart, brain and kidneys are all currently affected by this disease.  He has refractory epilepsy, which means medication isn’t giving him any relief with the seizures.  He has several brain tumors and tubers and over 20 kidney tumors.  He also has tumors and tubers throughout his heart. He also has Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome. Patric is currently awaiting approval for brain surgery as the doctors feel it is our only option for relief of the seizures. 

Patric suffers several different types of seizures and is currently on several different medications. Over the course of his 2 years of life, the Dr’s have tried more than 10-15 different variations of medication to help give him some relief.

We just received word from the Neurosurgeon at Texas Children's Hospital in Houston that Patric is scheduled for evaluation and testing on December 2nd.  He will be admitted to the hospital for at least a week, possibly a week and half.  This is the 1st of many trips Patric will have to make to Texas to determine if he is a candidate for the Brain Surgery.   

This is very last minute for us. Please pray for our family as we prepare for this next chapter in our TSC journey! Pray for us mentally, physically, and financially! This will bring a huge financial burden as  we thought that February 2020 would be the time frame we would be working with!
