Paton's Mr. Burns Haircut Fundraiser

Hi, my name is Paton and I have been growing my hair since the spring of 2024.

At first, it was because I didn't like haircuts, but then I learned about how lots of people who get cancer lose their hair, this is sad. I found out that if you have long enough hair, you can cut it and donate it to create a wig for them. I decided that this is what I would do. For 1 long year, I have been growing my hair, washing and taking care of it so that it would be nice to donate one day. Finally that day has come, it is now 10 inches long and ready to Donate!

At my hockey practise tonight, one of the parents bet me $10 to cut my hair like Mr Burns, from The Simpsons. I have been thinking about doing this anyways, but the idea of making money for it, seemed interesting. Then I got the idea, if he would pay me to cut my hair into a silly haircut, What if others would too? After asking some other hockey moms, dads, coaches, and grandmas at the area, I had collected pledges for over $115!

For a 8 year old, $115 dollars is like 23 weeks of allowance! That's a lot of money, its basically 1 million kid dollars. So I was convinced, I'm going to follow through and get the Mr. Burns haircut. Yes — I am serious, I will be shaving the top of my head bald, leaving a little bit of hair in a cul-de-sac shape above my ears and around the back of my head. Its going to look hilarious.

However, I'm not just doing this for the laughs, or the money. Like many of people, I have someone close to me who just died of cancer. It sucks and I want to do something about it. To raise awareness, I'm going to donate my hair to Chai Life Canada, and to support cancer research I am going to donate 100% of all funds raised to The Alberta Cancer Foundation.
