On April 19, 2015 my mom, Patricia Jongsma, suffered another stroke. It had been over 2 and a half years since my mom's brain aneurysm and initial 6 strokes. While she was unable to be unsupervised, she was home and doing well until this happened.
Since the beginning my dad has struggled with her insurance and what they would cover. They first denied her to go into a nursing home, where she currently is, telling him he had to bring her home. Insurance said she was at her baseline from when she first came into the hospital. At this time my mom could not walk, go to the bathroom, and had a feeding tube. Before April 19 she could walk, use the restroom and ate normally.
My mom was transfered to a nursing home on May 18. She was approved for 20 days at 100% coverage. After that time there has been a large daily copay since. For more than a month it has been a weekly battle of appeals for her to contuinue to get her care and rehabilitaion covered. It now looks like the insurance has stopped completely. Our family is unable to provide the home care my mom would require at this point. The daily cost of keeping her in the nursing home is adding up quickly.
Thank you in advance for any donation you are able to make to help with my mom's medical expenses.
