Help Patience Get a Service Dog
Donation protected
UPDATE: Thor is doing incredibly well with his training! We very much hope that he will be with Patience in early/mid 2024 after his training is complete. We are still far from our fundraising goal so any little bit helps - thank you!
Hi friends and family. As many of you know, my incredible daughter Patience has some pretty serious mental health issues, including PTSD, from her time in her birth and foster homes before we became a family.
Patience's therapists have recommended a service dog for her for several years. I actually helped to pass a law in Maryland three years ago to give service dogs to kids with developmental disabilities and PTSD, but sadly, the program was never funded/implemented.
I am very excited that we FINALLY have a chance to get Patience a service dog! A family friend, Marlene, has offered to train a service dog for Patience. Marlene has trained therapy dogs for hospice, and she's willing (and very able) to take the next steps to train a pup as a service dog for our family.
The typical cost of a service dog is about $50,000. Marlene has very kindly offered us one of her upcoming puppies, and to train the service puppy/dog for half that amount - $25,000. Training takes about 12-18 months and starts when the puppy is born - next month.
Patience is over the moon happy about the possibility of finally getting a service dog. I am pretty thrilled, too.
But we have had some very steep out-of-pocket health bills this year - and so I would like to ask for your help to raise this money for Patience's future service dog.
Thank you so much in advance for whatever you can do to help - donate, share with your social media networks, etc. Much love,
Danielle and Patience
