About this Project

Path to Redemption is a dramatic epic samurai film that explores the themes of guilt, brotherhood, honour and change. A concept that first time writer/director Anthony Longano has been developing since high school, he aims to portray a vicarial duel that delves into the psyche of his characters. Leaving audiences in shock and wonder.

Synopsis:

After journeying through the treacherous lands of feudal Japan, Kenji a fractured and lost samurai reaches his brother’s gravestone. If he is to fulfil his final vow and commit suicide, he must first battle a trained mysterious stranger who stands in his way. When a shocking truth is revealed, Kenji must decide whether to continue on his current path or set upon a new one.

Director (Anthony Longano) - My Intention behind Path to Redemption is to convey a captivating story that explores the themes of brotherhood, self identity & worth as well as honour & redemption within the world of feudal Japan. I would like to connect with the audience and make them feel & question what defines a person and if someone can truly atone for their past mistakes. Do the choices we make take us down a set path or can we can transform and change our fate?

I aim for the duel in this film to be an exhilarating sequence while incorporating authentic martial arts components. Though it is a vital part of the film, my goal is to push the narrative forward while enhancing the stakes with the fight - not just to be a show piece. A more intimate story focusing on the characters’ internal struggles & relationships. I hope this film will bring a fresh story with a distinctive style to the screen.

Producer (Helena Andronis) - Path to Redemption is a compelling narrative that grapples with deep concepts such as guilt, trauma, family and salvation. These are themes that everyone can relate to in one way or another, which is why I feel this project has something to truly offer audiences.

As an experienced producer I am keen to bring this film through to the festival circuit and assist in highlighting Anthony’s directing talents. Bringing on experience from feature-length productions and industry work, I wish to create an efficient and well-organised working environment to ensure that the production runs effectively.

I know that with mine and Anthony's combined reliability and capabilities there is no doubt that this will be an incredible film that will be made to the best of our abilities. Anthony's intention behind this project and his goal to create something both compelling but also authentic is a vision I deeply respect and hope to help craft into a story worth watching.

Cinematographer (Rhonin XU) - Hi, my name is Rhonin, and I am the D.O.P for this project. I’m a detail-oriented cinematographer who focuses on visual storytelling that serves the story. I’m here to ensure Anthony’s vision is realized with his creative intent.

I chose to work on Path to Redemption as it is a interesting and unique narrative within a striking world. Being my first action film, I aim to take my already diverse skillset and knowledge and apply it to this project to elevate the choreography and create spectacular images that convey Anthony's narrative.

Being a historical fictional film, we aim to preserve as much authenticity as possible, doing justice to Japanese culture. The budget will be crucial in developing this project and making our story come to life. Our goal is to hopefully raise $3000 and with your generous contribution help us produce costuming, props and makeup/SFX for the film. Your support will also aid us to properly look after our hardworking cast/crew by providing meals and basic on-set assistance.

Once production has wrapped, we hope to submit the film to a range of festivals. Film festival submissions come with entry fees, and your support will help us share our story with wider audiences.
