Pat Storey - One strong mother

Pat Storey received her new liver on August 9th, 2017! She made it out of surgery at approximately 6:30pm and is currently doing well. While this is fantastic news it does mean a lot of time in Halifax Nova Scotia for her and her family.

Pat is currently in the ICU and if everything continues to go well she will be moved to a step down unit in the next couple of days. She will be in Halifax for 6 to 8 weeks.

The confederation bridge, gas, food and lodging for at least one family member to be with her all the time is costly. Even staying at the hospital suggested specialty lodge costs $105.00 a night. That is almost $6,000.00 for a place to stay. The confederation bridge costs $46.50 per round trip crossing and it is a 330 km trip one-way from Charlottetown to Halifax.

Pat Storey, AKA Mom, is a very strong woman. She received a blood transfusion when she was 20 years old during a tonsillectomy that was infected with Hepatitis C. In another 15 years she would start her family still undiagnosed. She was always so strong and just kept going and kept her family going. Knowing she wasn’t well but not being able to get any further than a chronic fatigue and gastroesophageal reflux disease diagnoses until her children were in High School. Pat just kept on going never letting on how she was feeling.

Even after years of unsuccessful treatment, after the years of unsuccessful diagnosis, she still managed to win her fight to have the new Hepatitis C treatment covered by her private health insurance and is now living Hepatitis C free.

Even being Hepatitis C free the damage done to her liver was too severe to repair and she was diagnosed with liver cancer. She had a few unsuccessful attempts at removing and treating her liver cancer and was added to the liver transplant list.

Now this strong mother has survived her liver transplant surgery. She has survived every fight and always stayed standing. Please help us to be there for her in the way that she always fought to be there for us.
