Pat needs a fancier wheelchair for improv!
Improvisers, please share this far and wide. One of our own needs our help!
My good friend, student, and fellow improviser, Pat Bruckart, has lots of health challenges, including Diabetes and a degenerative back condition. He is on Disability and Medicare, which only allowed for the purchase of a manual wheelchair. He can stand and walk for very short periods of time, but not long enough to make it through a show at ComedySportz Richmond, where he has been playing for the last couple of years.
In his current chair, it's too hard for him to wheel himself quickly onstage, and the nature of improv makes it difficult for him to play freely when he needs others to assist him. By the time he's able to make a move, the impulse and moment have passed. This really impedes his ability to play and robs the audience and ensemble of the quality of play he is capable of. He needs us to rally around him to keep him in the art form that we all love so much.
The chair he needs is approximately $4500 before taxes and he will also need to mount transport hardware on the back of his vehicle. With gofundme fees, I set the fundraising at $6,000, but any little bit helps. Please share and donate if you can!
Love,
Mandy Butler
