When the chips are down, Nantucket steps up! Pat Hines, a 30 year Nantucket resident and tradesman, and his best friend and furry sidekick Laya need our help.  

Laya, Pat's gentle German Shephard and partner in crime, has suffered an injury to her left knee and is in excruciating pain daily. They need to head off-island for an MRI and orthopedic surgery in mid-November, and the orthopedic vet estimates the cost to be upwards of $10k.  

The timing couldn't be worse, as Pat just pre-paid for his second hip replacement scheduled for December 6th.  He will not be able to work for 3 months after the surgery, yet still wants to take care of Laya first.  

A special account has been set up for all donations made to help Laya.  If the fundraising exceeds Pat's goal, the extra money will be donated to Nantucket Safe Harbor for Animals. No donation is too small. Pat is grateful for the Nantucket community any help he can get!
