Pat Gavin's Retirement Travel Fund

A few weeks ago, I was talking with Pat and asked him what his plans are after 32 years as our Director.

He smiled and said:

• I’m super excited to be a granddad for the very first time. I am going to spoil that little girl.

• I’m going to sit back and relax, I have been going non-stop for 32 years. Making sure everything was always 100% perfect.

• I want to…you ready for this?......PLAY GOLF!!!! I mean like really PLAY GOLF. Travel the United States, go everywhere, PLAY everywhere. See alumni! There will be trips I take alone and just disappear and go see as many alumni as I can. Then there will be trips with Tamara, where we travel to see friends. Then later there will be trips with the two of us and our granddaughter. So, a lot of travel is in my future.

It is awesome to see Pat so happy. This is his next chapter in a guaranteed BEST SELLER!

As we all know, Pat is not only our Director but is our Mentor, Teacher, Advice Giver and most importantly our FRIEND. He would do anything for a student of the PGM Program. For many of us, me included, he guided me in life way past the golf industry. He raised us all after we packed our cars up and drove to Las Cruces. He promised our families that he would look out for us. He taught us more about life than he did about the golf industry. When is the last time you saw him without that huge smile on his face?

Pat Gavin loves asking for money…but only when it helps his students. It’s time for us, as alumni, to repay the man that gave us all so much in our careers and in life. Let’s get Gavin a Sprinter Van to travel the country with his family, so he can see all the friends he has made over the years. It will be outfitted with a small kitchen, bathroom, bed and Wi-Fi and a flat screen tv. A gently used one goes for around $80k. With over 500 active alumni from NMSU, each donating income from two lessons, we can make this happen. Some can donate more, some less, but I think our goal needs to be $80k. This fund will be separate from NMSU and wholly funded by all of us.

With all that said, Pat, we all thank you for what you have done for us to make us the humans we are…and strive to be better each day. You will be sorely missed but can’t wait to see what the next chapter in your life brings you and your family. You should now have time to write your book!!
