Pat Daugherty Book

We are raising money to publish a book we've written, "Community Treasure." It is a story about a small Iowa town (Centerville), a junior college (Indian Hills Community College) and a baseball coach (Pat Daugherty). The book revolves around a baseball program started in the mid-1960s by Coach Daugherty that today is recognized as one of the top two-year programs in the country. The book addresses the uniqueness of Centerville and the school, but the bulk of the book focuses on the memories that many players have of playing for Coach Daugherty. Coach Daugherty himself recalls how the program got started, how he (and his players) built a field for the school (ala "Field of Dreams") and how the program was built into a powerhouse. A good portion of the book are personal thoughts from former players about IHCC and Coach Daugherty.

The story of Centerville, IHCC and Coach Daugherty is one that should resonate with a lot of people, but especially with those who enjoy baseball. "Community Treasure" will be a must-read for anyone who played at IHCC for Daugherty, and those who are familiar with the program.

The money will be used to self-publish the book. Once books are published and distributed to "Go Fund Me" contributors - we are giving contributors of $50 or more a free copy of the book - extra copies will be given to the school and will be available to be sold in the school's bookstore.

We are about 90% complete with the book. We are hoping to have the book published within a month.

We will be very grateful to anyone who donates to this cause. We feel the book has a compelling story and that people need to hear this "feel-good" story. We want as many people as possible to read about Coach and the influence he had over so many young men. Many of his players have gone on to achieve great things.
